Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the MyHorizon website and services located at myhorizon.guide (the “Service”), operated by MyHorizon (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

MyHorizon is an informational platform that provides structured guides, checklists, FAQs, and curated resources to help individuals navigate major life transitions such as retirement, divorce, job loss, and others. The Service also includes a directory of professionals (“Experts”) who may be contacted through the platform.

MyHorizon is available in the United States only. The Service is offered in English.

2. Not Professional Advice

The content on MyHorizon — including all guides, checklists, FAQs, resources, and any information provided by Experts through their profiles or the platform — is for general informational purposes only. It does not constitute legal, financial, medical, tax, psychological, or any other form of professional advice.

No content on the Service creates a professional-client relationship between you and MyHorizon or between you and any Expert listed in the directory. You should not rely on any information on this Service as a substitute for advice from a qualified, licensed professional who is familiar with your specific situation.

Life transitions involve complex, individual circumstances. Always consult a qualified professional before making decisions with legal, financial, medical, or other significant consequences.

3. Accounts

To access certain features — including checklist tracking and the expert directory — you must create a free account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
  • Keep your account credentials confidential and not share them with others.
  • Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
  • Be responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this requirement.

4. Expert Subscriptions

Eligibility. Expert subscriptions (Contributing Expert and Directory Expert) are available to licensed or credentialed professionals operating in the United States. By subscribing, you represent that you are qualified to practice in your stated specialty area.

Subscription plans. We offer two paid Expert tiers:

  • Directory Expert — $5/month or $49/year. Includes a public directory listing.
  • Contributing Expert — $10/month or $99/year. Includes directory listing and the ability to submit content for publication on the platform.

Prices are in U.S. dollars and are subject to change with advance notice.

Billing. Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time through the subscription management portal accessible from your account page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to Expert features through the end of the paid period. We do not issue prorated refunds for partial periods.

Profile deactivation. If a subscription lapses or is canceled, your Expert profile will be hidden from the directory but not deleted. Reactivating your subscription at any time restores your profile.

Trusted Contributing Experts. Trusted Contributing Experts are invitation-only, receive lifetime free access, and are governed by a separate written agreement with MyHorizon.

5. User Content

Users may submit Community Notes to flag issues with transition content. Experts may submit content (transitions, guides, checklist items, resources) for review and publication.

By submitting any content to the Service, you:

  • Represent that you own or have the right to submit the content.
  • Grant MyHorizon a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to use, reproduce, modify, display, and distribute the content in connection with operating and improving the Service.
  • Agree that we may edit, reject, or remove your content at our discretion, including for quality, accuracy, or policy violations.

You are solely responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of content you submit. Content that is false, misleading, defamatory, infringing, or otherwise harmful is prohibited.

6. Expert Directory

The expert directory lists professionals who have paid for a subscription. Inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement, certification, recommendation, or verification of any Expert's qualifications, credentials, reputation, or fitness for any particular purpose. MyHorizon does not investigate, verify, or guarantee the accuracy of Expert profile information.

Your decision to contact or work with any Expert listed on the Service is entirely your own. MyHorizon is not a party to any relationship between you and an Expert and is not responsible for the services, advice, or conduct of any Expert.

7. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
  • Misrepresent your identity, credentials, or qualifications.
  • Submit false, misleading, or inaccurate content.
  • Attempt to access another user's account.
  • Scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service by automated means without our written permission.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
  • Use the Service to transmit spam, unsolicited communications, or promotional materials.
  • Engage in conduct that is harassing, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise harmful toward other users or Experts.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content — including the MyHorizon name, logo, platform design, and all content authored or curated by MyHorizon — are owned by MyHorizon and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works of this content without our prior written permission.

Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you beyond the limited right to use the Service as described herein.

9. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites, resources, forms, or tools. These are provided for convenience only. MyHorizon does not endorse and is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party sites. Accessing third-party links is at your own risk.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

We make no representations about the completeness, accuracy, timeliness, or suitability of any content on the Service for any particular purpose. Life circumstances vary widely; content that is accurate in one situation may not apply to yours.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MYHORIZON AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR DECISIONS MADE IN RELIANCE ON CONTENT FOUND ON THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) $100.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MyHorizon and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your submission of content to the Service.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

14. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account, or remove any Expert listing, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, for conduct that violates these Terms or that we determine is harmful to the Service, other users, or third parties. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify registered users by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service.
